"Note Recognition" is an innovative acoustic music scanner designed to transform recorded music into alternate sheet music formats. This application assists musicians in learning new songs by offering sheet music suggestions based on recorded audio. It also features an audio slow-motion function that allows users to adjust playback speed, making it easier to grasp intricate musical passages.

The functionality relies on pitch detection and frequency analysis techniques, notably Fast Fourier Transformation (FFT). This tool is particularly beneficial for vocalists and those who play guitar or piano. The note analysis feature captures the music being played, evaluates its pitch, and returns transcriptions in sheet music form. Musicians can utilize it to identify notes in their compositions, validate their vocal pitch, or transcribe songs while accompanying themselves on their chosen instrument. Additionally, the app serves as a basic audio and voice recording tool.

It is important to note that while the note detector provides useful sheet music suggestions, it may not capture all played notes accurately. The effectiveness of the detection algorithm largely depends on the quality of the input signal. Best results are achieved when a single instrument or voice is recorded without background noise. Positioning the device close to the sound source can significantly enhance detection quality.

The application's note recognition algorithm involves complex mathematical processes, which may require some time to analyze recorded audio effectively.

In an effort to set realistic expectations, here are a few limitations of the app:

<li>Instrument Separation: The acoustic scanner does not differentiate between multiple instruments, which can lead to poor detection results if multiple sources are recorded at once.</li>
<li>Live Note Recognition: The app is not equipped to display live sheet music recognition; results will appear after analysis.</li>
<li>Real Sheet Music: Instead of standard sheet music, the app provides alternate visual representations.</li>
<li>100% Match Percentage: It is unlikely to achieve full accuracy in detecting notes, and some discrepancies may occur in detection.</li>
</ul>

The audio speed change feature offers options to slow playback down to 2x and 4x normal speed. This capability can be particularly effective for dissecting fast-paced songs when standard playback renders the sheet music unreadable. Slowing audio can also aid musicians in identifying rapid note sequences by ear.

If you encounter unsatisfactory note detection results, consider adjusting the detail level settings within the app for optimal performance.

The music note detection capability has been tested successfully with guitar, piano, and vocal performances; however, it should be compatible with various instruments capable of producing pitches above B1 (61.7 Hz).
